Nick Cannon shared on Thursday how he relied on his faith to give him strength after 5 month old son’s death from a malignant brain tumor earlier this month.
“You pray for miracles,” he told Hoda Kotb. “Being born on faith, the miracle is not that we can do something we don’t know, but it’s the things in which we can find solace.
“So I prayed for the miracle of strength to be here today, and I find that peace surpasses all understanding.”
His son Zen with model Alyssa Scott, 28, was diagnosed in August with glioma, a rare and deadly form of brain cancer. Cannon, 41, said his show’s opening last month about the pain he and Scott have endured was “sensitive” and “terrifying”.
“I am taking it as my therapist says, five minutes at a time,” Cannon says. “I’m optimistic about finding purpose through all the pain, so I’m trying to smile, I’m trying to be the high-frequency individual I’ve set out to be, but along the way for sure There are some twists and turns in the journey, so I’ll do it every five minutes.”
Cannon and Scott made an emotional decision do not pursue chemotherapy for their son in his final months. Cannon herself has experience with chemotherapy from her treatment for lupus, an autoimmune disease.
“We had quality of life conversations,” he said Everyone. “We could have that existence where he would have to live in the hospital, attached to the machines, for the rest of the time. From someone who has faced chemotherapy before, I know the pain. To see that happen to a 2 month old baby, I don’t want that. I don’t want him to suffer.”
Cannon shared on his talk show last week that he has a tattoo on Zen’s ribs like an angel wing and halo. Scott also shared pictures and videos of their little boy on her Instagram stories after his death.
Cannon is also the father of six other children. He welcomes twin sons, Zion and Zillion, with DJ Abby De La Rosa in June. He also has a 4-year-old son, Golden, and an 11-month-old daughter, Powerful Queen, with Brittany Bell, and 10-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, with ex-wife Mariah Carey.
