‘Next season will be different’ – Erik ten Hag refuses to confirm Harry Maguire will remain Man Utd captain

ERIK TEN HAG has called Harry Maguire a ‘great player’ as he refused to confirm if he will remain Manchester United captain.

The Red Devils’ new boss spoke in his first press conference since he was announced as the club’s next permanent manager.

Ten Hag was in the stands at Selhurst Park on Sunday as United lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace in their final game of the season.

And he has now spoken to the media after replacing interim gaffer Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag was asked if Maguire would keep the captain’s armband for the next term after a disappointing year in which he was guilty of numerous horror shows.

Last month Rangnick questioned whether Maguire should be captain as he explained that Ten Hag had to decide whether to strip him.

The question was then directed to Ten Hag, where he gave no definitive answer as to whether a new captain would be appointed.

He said of Maguire: “I have to reiterate: next season is a different season but I think he did a great job.

“He’s a great player, he’s achieved a lot, including contributing to Man United, so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
