Newcastle’s forgotten man Sean Longstaff is wanted on loan transfer by Nottingham Forest after Eddie Howe turned it down

NOTTINGHAM FOREST is considering a surprise loan for forgotten Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.

Longstaff, 24, is on the fringes at Toon and Steve Cooper could add players when the Forest chiefs think they have a chance for a promotion.

Everton are also interested in Longstaff in September.

The Toffees are considering a move in January that means Forest could face competition.

Longstaff’s chances of game time could only get slimmer in the new year.

He cannot join the struggling Magpies team at the moment and Toon is set to add more players in the next transfer window.

They were supposed to have contacted Jesse Lingard.

Earlier on Saturday, SunSport exclusively revealed Newcastle want Brighton’s Dan Ashworth as their new director of football.

He is currently working with Albion as technical director after establishing himself at West Brom and the FA.

Now, the Magpies have been targeted by Ashworth as they want to build a permanent team behind the scenes, helped by a headhunting organization.

The new Newcastle owners have taken time to fill their roles despite the upcoming transfer window.

Other names mentioned include Frank McParland – a close advisor to Toon’s director, Amanda Staveley, who has worked at Liverpool, Brentford, Rangers and Nottingham Forest.

Leeds’ Spanish director of football Victor Orta is also on the list.

This early year, Longstaff broke down in tears during a conversation with his brother Matty as he ‘bottomed out’.

The midfielder admits he has coped ‘in a pretty bad way’ to the pressures of being thrust into Toon’s limelight.

Longstaff was just 20 years old when he made his debut in the 2018-19 season.

And it was during a family breakfast a year ago that Longstaff revealed his anguish.

But after opening up his heart to his brother and father, as well as meeting regularly with a psychologist, Longstaff now feels ‘much more comfortable in his own skin’.
