Newcastle were hit by a DOUBLE injury blow as Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes flew home with punches from international duty

NEWCASTLE have been hit by an injury crisis, with starmen Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes suffering blows.

Record signing Isak, 23, did not feature for Sweden this international break and returned to Tyneside at the weekend to treat a leg injury.

The £60m forward is expected to be out for several weeks, leaving only Toon ONE Fit frontman back in training with Callum Wilson after a month hiatus.

Chris Wood also suffered a rib injury with New Zealand, while talisman Allan Saint-Maximin is still recovering from a hamstring problem.

Guimaraes is also a question for Fulham this weekend after returning early from Brazil duty with a thigh strain.

Although the 24-year-old’s injury is unlikely to be serious, Guimaraes was absent from Brazil’s squad against Tunisia tonight.

The blows come with the Magpies being without a win in their last six Premier League games.

Eddie Howe’s side beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 on the opening day but have had some bad luck since.

The Toon then drew 0-0 in Brighton before edging out champions Manchester City at St James’ Park.

They led Pep Guardiola and Co 3-1 before being pushed back by Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva.

Saint-Maximin’s 90th-minute equalizer ensured a 1-1 draw at Wolves before a last-minute 2-1 defeat at Liverpool and a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

Isak scored from the penalty spot last time out against Bournemouth.

But his first goal in a Newcastle shirt wasn’t enough to take all three points and Philip Billing’s performance saw the Cherries share the spoils without a manager.
