Toon’s manager Eddie Howe later confirmed the right-back had been taken to hospital for an X-ray.

Howe said: “Trippier was trampled and he couldn’t continue with the problem at the top of his foot.

“He went for an X-ray at the hospital. We’re keeping things going with no broken bones there. “

Trippier joined wealthy Newcastle in January as first signing of the Saudi-led era on Tyneside.

He is from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth 12 million pounds when Howe called for reinforcements to help them defeat.
