Newcastle line up a £34m transfer offer for Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi, while Eddie Howe also falls short of Yannick Carrasco

NEWCASTLE are reportedly considering a move for Renan Lodi from Atletico Madrid, who is rated at £34million.

And it could be a double attack on Toon boss Eddie Howe’s LaLiga side, with Yannick Carrasco also on the shortlist.

Howe is sure to spend some of the Saudi owner’s millions this summer to try and get the Magpies to compete for a place in Europe.

This season, the former Bournemouth manager has guided Newcastle well from relegation after taking over when the team were penultimate.

According to Marca, the Geordies are preparing to place a £34m bid for left-back Lodi.

The 24-year-old made 42 appearances for Atletico last season, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

Newcastle are also reportedly snooping on Lodi’s teammate Carrasco.

His agent is reportedly wanting the 28-year-old midfielder to receive a pay rise and any standoff could see Newcastle intervene.

He is valued at around £55m by Atletico.

The sleeping giants of St James’ Park recently ambushed Atletico for England full-back Kieran Trippier.

Newcastle are also reportedly chasing Juventus star Adrien Rabiot – but could face a battle with Premier League rivals Chelsea for his signature.

Rabiot could leave Juve this summer as the Italian club seek a squad overhaul.

For the first time in eleven years, the Old Lady ended a season without a title and Max Allegri could only lead his side to fourth place in Serie A.

Yannick Carrasco could also move to Tyneside
