Dembele has been linked with a transfer to a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle.

And it’s his connection to Newcastle that makes his visit to the home of Sunderland – the Magpies’ bitter rivals – so bizarre.

Sunderland were in action against Sheffield United in the Championship as they attempted to get back into the promotion hunt.

However, despite the lead, the Black Cats lost a 2-1 loss after the Blades scored goals on both sides.

Regardless, some fans believe it was a simple case of him getting lost.

Dembele previously celebrated Sunderland’s promotion at the end of last season after congratulating the club on Instagram.

He appears to be on good terms with Sunderland’s French owner, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, with whom he sat next to him during the game.
