Newcastle boss Eddie Howe rules out sensational transfer for wanton Man Utd ace Cristiano Ronaldo

EDDIE HOWE doesn’t want to sign aging superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo to start a Newcastle revolution.

The embossed magpies turn away from short-term solutions while plotting a path to the top of the tree.

Howe admitted he is making special plans to stop Ronaldo, 37, at Old Trafford on Sunday.

But he added: “It’s not really a signing that we would necessarily do.

“We try to offer long-term growth, we have a longer-term vision.

“We have quite an aging squad so we need to invest in more young players.

“That’s a big part of our progress – we need to lower the median age.”

The Portuguese legend has played within 30 minutes of Manchester United’s last three games, scoring his 700th club goal in the process.

Ronaldo also scored twice in last year’s match against Newcastle, a 4-1 win for United in what appeared to be his impressive second appearance at Old Trafford at the time.

And Howe added: “It just shows how good his record is, how good his career has been, it puts that back in focus.

“The quality is undeniable and we have to be very, very good against him when he plays.

“We need to let our defenders know what areas he wants to score in. We have to be aware of that.”

The Red Devils just squeezed into the top six last season, while Liverpool’s struggles this season could help open up a European spot for Toon.

It’s certainly where the ambitious and aspiring Tynesiders hope to be by May.

But Howe warned: “Liverpool will come back, I’m sure of that, they’re still an outstanding side obviously.

“We’re very early in the season to make quick judgments about what’s going to happen.

“However, it is very clear that we want to be there, we are trying everything to be the best team we can be. But the competition is also very strong.”
