NEWCASTLE UNITED announced the arrival of Nick Pope with a hilarious Twitter post.
The England goalkeeper, 30, arrives at St James’ Park on a deal worth around £10million and has signed a four-year deal.
And the Magpies christened his move with a brilliant post showing white smoke over St James’ Park.
In Vatican City, white smoke billowing over the Sistine Chapel means a new pope has been elected to office.
Pope was named Premier League Team of the Year in 2020 but failed to help the Clarets avoid relegation last season.
He has eight caps in England and has established himself as the No. 2 in the Three Lions.
He said: “Now I’m here, I can’t wait to get started.
“The deal took a couple of weeks to materialize but it crossed the line really quickly and I’m really excited to be here and I’m really looking forward to getting involved in it.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe added: “Nick is an exceptional goalkeeper in the Premier League and at international level so I’m delighted to add strong competition to a very important position.
“There has been a lot of interest in him from other clubs this summer so I would like to thank our owners and everyone behind the scenes for giving us an edge over the competition.

“I am delighted that he will join us as we prepare for the exciting challenge that lies ahead.”
Pope had a year left on his Turf Moor contract but was keen to stay in the Prem to secure a spot in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
Howe made his move last week and Pope will fight Martin Dubravka for the No. 1 jersey.
Pope is set to follow left-back Matt Targett to Tyneside – and hopes are rising that defender Sven Botman will soon follow.
