Newcastle ‘agree transfer fee with Aston Villa for Matt Targett with option to exercise permanent loan in summer’

NEWCASTLE has agreed with Aston Villa the transfer fee they will have to pay IF they want to sign him permanently in the summer.
The 26-year-old left-back joined the Magpies on loan from fellow Premier League side Villa in January.

And he has started four of their five games since arriving at Tyneside.
When things settle down, he will return to Steven Gerrard’s team at the end of the season.
But the two clubs have now agreed a £15m price tag for the player.
So, whether the permanent transfer is complete or not depends on Newcastle’s desire to keep him.
Targett will almost certainly want to stay at St James’ Park as Villa’s new boy Lucas Digne has replaced him in Gerrard’s team.
The former Everton man left Goodison Park in January for a fee of £25m.

Meanwhile, Targett has been part of a resurgence in terms of form for Newcastle.
In great rotation under Eddie Howe, they are now 8 games unbeaten against Prem.
Since the defeat against Man City on December 19, the Northeastern team has won 5 of the last 8 matches in the league.
As a result, they are now 7 points ahead of the relegation zone in 14th place.
Next up for Newcastle is a trip to Southampton on Thursday night.
