Newcastle agree £39m deal for Lille star Sven Botman as the defender completes medical treatment and signs five-year deal

NEWCASTLE UNITED have agreed a deal for Lille star Sven Botman.
The 22-year-old centre-back has already completed his medical and signed a five-year deal to join the Revolution at St James’ Park.

The club announced that the ‘transfer formalities’ will be ‘completed this week’.
Botman is thought to cost £35m upfront, with £4m in add-ons.
The Netherlands U21 star was pictured at the stadium wearing the Newcastle shirt and the signing appears to be all but complete.
The Saudi toon has been embroiled in a fight for Italian star giants AC Milan since January.
But they were strengthened last week when Milan dropped out of the race.
Paris Saint-Germain also made a late move, but Eddie Howe’s side won the race for the coveted star.
Botman’s arrival brings Newcastle’s spending to nearly £60million after landing Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett, 26, and Burnley keeper Nick Pope, 30.
However, the club’s pursuit of Reims striker Hugo Ekitike is said to have fizzled out.

“Ridiculous” demands from the 20-year-old’s agent are believed to have forced Howe to look elsewhere.
Newcastle were ready to pay £25million for the France Under-20 international, who scored ten Ligue 1 goals last season.
Chelsea striker Armando Broja, who impressed on loan at Southampton last season, is one such target.
Everton and England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sweden’s Real Sociedad Alexander Isak are also on Newcastle’s shortlist but would likely be too expensive given FFP restrictions.
