New York earthquake – tremors near Buffalo trigger ‘loud boom’, GMA’s Sam Champion said ‘whole houses shook’

An earthquake reportedly hit parts of New York this morning.
Shockwaves of the tremors were reportedly felt in Buffalo, causing houses to shake.

US Geological Survey seismologists said the 3.8-magnitude quake struck the Empire State just after 6 a.m. local time Monday.
Its epicenter was about 2 km from the town of West Seneca, New York.
Shockwaves are expected to have been felt in Lackawanna, Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Tonawanda.
GMA meteorologist Sam Champion asked his Twitter fans, “Did you feel an earthquake near Buffalo?”
A New Yorker has claimed he heard a “big bang” and said his whole house “shook”.
In response to Champion, a second said: “I felt it here in East Aurora – south of Buffalo. Our dog freaked out.”
Residents took to social media to document their experiences.
WBKW reporter Michael Schwartz said, “It felt like my dog was using his two front legs to move my bed and wake me up right away.”
A local said: “Waking up to the whole house shaking and cups clinking. This is something else.”
Another wrote: “We definitely felt and heard this earthquake! [The] The whole house shook.
“My first thought was that something had exploded nearby.
The extent of the damage caused by the quake is still unknown.
It comes just weeks after a magnitude 4.2 quake struck parts of California.
Seismologists said the epicenter was about 10 miles south of Malibu Beach and 28 miles from Los Angeles.
Residents took to social media to feel tremors in Santa Monica, Camarillo and Anaheim.
