She had booked an overnight stay at Elephant Backpackers in Woolloomooloo for October 28 but left without even seeing her room.
Kathleen then went to the northern part of town and was last seen on CCTV shopping before walking down a street.
Curiously, a backpack containing personal belongings, including her ID and bank cards, was found 7 km away.
Her cell phone was also found abandoned – but in a neighboring suburb.

Now police have shockingly revealed that Kathleen – known by police to use a number of aliases – may have traveled to Melbourne where she could have built a whole new life, reports 7News.
Deputy Prime Minister and Police Minister Paul Toole said: “The ripple effect that occurs when a person goes missing without reason or without a trace should not be underestimated.
“Police are eager to locate Kathleen to provide answers to her family and those who knew her, but they need the public’s help.”
Kathleen’s heartbroken mother Shirley has asked people to share what she knows as she shared her deep concern for her daughter’s wellbeing.
She said: “We love you Kathleen so if you happen to hear this please contact me or a family member.
“As a mother, I would ask you all, please look for Kathleen.
“We are stunned that she has disappeared and it is deeply upsetting for us not to know where she is.
“She was having some mental health issues at the time, which may have something to do with why she disappeared.”
Detective Chief Inspector Glen Browne said police are heavily reliant on new information in their hunt for fitness enthusiast Kathleen.
He said: “Her behavior was clearly out of character when she was last seen and we could find no logical reason for her movements that day and subsequent disappearance.
“Investigators strongly suspect that Kathleen is alive and possibly living interstate and any information on this would be very helpful to the police.”
Kathleen was last seen on October 28 in a long sleeve denim dress and black flats.
She is described as Caucasian-looking, approximately 165cm to 175cm tall, with a thin build and long dark hair.
