NEW rail strikes have been announced and workers will also move out on Christmas Eve.

RMT members will vote on December 13-14 and 16-17 on whether to proceed with strikes, with the union leader responding to a “bad” salary offer.

The series of rail strikes in the UK in recent months has been the result of disputes over wages, the prospect of redundancies and working conditions.

The strikes involve Network Rail employees covering England, Scotland and Wales, leading to widespread action affecting services across the network.

It comes as union members from the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP) will be stepping down for two weeks over the bank holiday.

The industrial action begins on December 19th and ends on December 30th.

Around 200 back-office benefit workers are expected to attend, along with 30 across three offices in Liverpool and one in Doncaster.

The strike is not expected to affect anyone’s welfare benefits, but the union understands it will disrupt ‘conditionality’ talks on welfare benefits, which would normally result in sanctions. New rail misery after union announces more strikes including one on CHRISTMAS EVE
