The program, which will officially launch in February 2022, aims to improve maternal and child health outcomes in disproportionately affected areas.

Martha’s Table, a non-profit organization, was tasked with implementing the program.

The nonprofit will be responsible for providing $900 per month for a year to 132 new and prospective mothers in Wards 5, 7, and 8.

Martha’s Table intends to use qualitative and quantitative methods to monitor the program and assess the impact of direct cash assistance on participating mothers and physical, mental, and health outcomes. their child’s health.

“Welcoming a new baby is a reason to celebrate,” said Kim Ford, president and chief executive officer of Martha’s Table.

“This direct cash assistance will mean families can focus on bonding with their young child without getting bogged down by the financial stress that often comes with the first year of life.”

Who is eligible?

The program will target people who earn up to 250% above the federal poverty level and are in the second or third trimester of pregnancy or have a baby less than three months old.

Wards 5, 7, or 8 were chosen because these wards have the highest proportion of blacks in the city, the lowest median household income, and the least access to prenatal care.

If you are a mom living in Wards 5, 7, or 8, you should contact Martha’s Table to see if you may be eligible.
