New grand playground at Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park

GOLDEN GATE REAL ESTATE

A new playground at Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park at Golden Gate Estates finally opened after delay due to shortage of supply.

And that’s a big win for the community.

Parents who live in this area are used to having no playground around because it’s hard to miss what you’ve never had.

Other plans for the park include recreational sports fields, outdoor and indoor gyms, kayaks & canoes, community centers, franchise pavilions, aquatics centers and more .

But now, parents, caregivers and especially children can’t contain their excitement.

Sloan Mount was at the park on Thursday, enjoying the nice weather and large playground with her children. “Honestly, it feels really great, I’ve lived here for over 10 years and I never thought they would have anything like this out there.”

The mother-of-three said she has taken her children there 10 times. And the Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park just opened this week.

Park supervisor Randi Hopkins said COVID has slowed things down but now work is back on track.

“This is a gadget they have wanted for 20 years and it has finally come to fruition,” he said.

This is the largest playground in Collier County, and right next to it is the aquatic center. Work is expected to be completed on it, along with a new community center in the spring. The address is 810 39th Ave NE.
