New details after the couple fell from the 6th floor to their deaths as police investigated “signs of a struggle” at the flat

Investigators are trying to determine if there was a fight before a New York couple fell to their deaths from their apartment on Saturday.

Florind Belliu, 35, was an actor and aspiring filmmaker from Albania when he and his 28-year-old wife Ornela Shehi were found dead after apparently jumping from their sixth-floor apartment, police said.

“There were signs around the apartment that suggested it wasn’t just Kumbaya, like they didn’t just decide to leave their kids behind and jump,” a police source told the New York Post.

The source did not want to provide any further information on the alleged “signs”.

According to the source, no suicide note was left at the scene.

Police are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine if Shehi sustained any injuries unrelated to the fall.

As of late Tuesday morning, the city’s Bureau of Medical Investigation had not made a decision regarding the couple’s deaths.

“Both are pending while the ME awaits additional investigative information,” said a spokeswoman, adding that the signs could include “further testing of remains or investigative footage from the scene.”

Video caught Shehi’s fall before she reached the alley. Belliu fell after her just a few seconds later.

The couple had moved into the building with their two children about four months ago, and authorities said they had never received any domestic violence complaints related to the couple.

According to neighbors, the two were a “quiet” couple who “kept to themselves” and were often seen out for walks.

However, it was also claimed that Belliu was visibly angry on Friday.

“I saw them always buying things for the house, like every day together, with two kids together, we didn’t realize anything was wrong,” Shed Perkaj, the caretaker’s wife, told The Post.

The Albanian Daily News reported that screams were heard before the fatal fall.

One person said: “I heard some commotion, then I looked out and saw two bodies.

“You could tell they were dead. I was shocked. It was a lot of blood.”

Meanwhile, Frank Mussumeci said a construction worker heard a noise during a coffee break.

He said: “He heard a pop, like a big piece of steel … hitting the ground.

“Then he heard a child yell ‘Mama, Mama’. He looked over the gate and saw two bodies there.”

Perkaj also said it was Bellius’ birthday on Saturday.

“What a pain you caused [kill yourself]?!” wrote Bellius friend Elona Caslli in a Facebook post in Albanian.

“A multiple tragedy for which there is no word of comfort. God give strength to your children and parents.”

According to EuroNews Albania, Belliu has been in the process of writing two books and a screenplay for the past few years, which he plans to submit to Netflix.
