‘New Amsterdam’ canceled: NBS drama ends with season 5

Documents at New Amsterdam going to their final rounds next season.

TVLine has confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of the NBC medical drama will be its last.

New Amsterdam – which stars Ryan Eggold as Dr. Max Goodwin – is currently in its fourth season. Each DeadlineAs first announced, Season 5 will consist of 13 episodes – the shortest of the series to date.

Seasonally so far, New Amsterdam is having an average total of 6.2 million viewers and a demo rating of 0.7 (with Live playback + 7 DVRs) – 11 and 30% down from the Season 3 average. In 11 of the NBC dramas that aired this season, it ranked eighth in audience and ninth in terms of demos.

New Amsterdam has been renewed for the next season as part of three-year pickup truck made by NBC in 2020.

Universal Television President Erin Underhill added: “I first read the test script for New Amsterdam, I know we had a winner. We cheered for Max’s break with the status quo and applauded when he asked his patients the simple but poignant question, ‘How can I help?’ Over the past four seasons, David, Peter, and our incredible cast have tackled important and thought-provoking stories that involve the human condition, but also make us laugh and imbue hope. We’re so proud of this series and grateful to everyone involved in bringing it New Amsterdam to life.”

TVLine’s Point Card Renewal in 2022 has been updated to reflect New Amsterdam’s ending is imminent.
