Netflix will decide on seasons 2 and 3 of the “upcoming” squid game

Season two seems to be a certainty, but this is the first time we’ve heard of season three.

Squid Fishing Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is currently in talks with Netflix for both the second and third seasons of the hit horror film. Squid fishing game become Netflix’s biggest show ever when it was released back in September, surprised audiences as well as Netflix with record viewership. And with so many fans clamoring for a sequel, Netflix and Dong-hyuk are already in talks for not only a second but a third season of Squid Game.

“I’m in talks with Netflix for season two as well as season three,” Dong-hyuk said in a recent interview with South Korean broadcaster KBS (via Korea Times). “We will come to a conclusion soon.”

This is the first time we hear what Hwang has to say about the third season. Last month, Dong-hyuk confirmed talks with Netflix for season two, saying he’s “currently in the planning stages.” Apparently, those discussions were productive enough that Netflix might even consider a third season.

“We know that everyone is waiting [for the next season to come out] so we’re all trying to think positively about creating the next season,” added Dong-hyuk.

Some big reveal lies ahead, so if you haven’t seen Squid Game you can stop reading here.

Season one ended with Seong Gi-hun surviving the games and passing all 455 contestants to walk away with billions of Won. However, before boarding the plane to America, Gi-hun went back to find out the organizers of the Squid Game.

Dong-hyuk confirmed that season two of Squid Game “will focus on Seong Gi-hun”, adding, “The overall story will revolve around the people Gi-hun meets and the people he will pursue. “

There’s no word on what season three will be about, but that would probably spoil too much of what was planned for season two. There’s also no news on when the second season of Squid Game will arrive, so don’t expect it anytime soon.
