Netflix users could LOSE their accounts over little-known feature – are you at risk?

NETFLIX users could lose access to their accounts due to a little-known feature that can block profile transfers.

It appears to be targeting freeloaders, as the new feature came on the heels of Netflix’s controversial crackdown on password sharing in May.

You could be at risk if you're a former (or current) account sharer who cheekily molested a friend's friend or an uncle's friend

This feature can easily be used by any disgruntled account holder to punish those who were brazenly using their Netflix before the ban went into effect.

Paid Netflix subscribers can prevent people who misused their account from transferring their profile to a new account.

So everything Netflix has learned about her will go away.

You have to start over with a new profile and terrible recommendations.

According to Netflix, “This setting controls whether profiles can be transferred from this account to a new account, an existing account, or an additional member seat.”

“It does not affect whether a profile can be transferred to this account.”

It’s unlikely that many people will take advantage of this Netflix feature out of spite.

Many account sharers did this voluntarily, with friends and family giving the data to multiple streaming sites but only paying for one at a time.

However, you could be at risk if you’re a former (or current) account sharer who cheekily molested an uncle’s friend’s friend — or some other not-quite-consensual arrangement.

If that’s the case, you’ll want to quickly transfer your profile to your own account—or at least someone’s account in your household—so you don’t lose all of your Netflix data.

If you want to transfer your profile to a new account, follow the steps:

  1. Using a web browser, sign in to the account that contains the profile you want to transfer to open a new account.
  2. Visit the account page.
  3. In the Profiles and Parental Controls In the section, select the profile you want to open a new account with.
  4. Choose Transfer.
  5. Choose Start the profile transfer.
  6. Choose A new account.
  7. Enter the email address and password you want to use for the new account.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish setting up the account.

If you want to transfer a profile to an existing account, follow these steps:

  1. Using a web browser, sign in to the account that contains the profile you want to transfer.
  2. Visit the account page.
  3. In the Profiles and Parental Controls In the section, select the profile you want to transfer.
  4. Choose Transfer.
  5. Choose Start the profile transfer.
  6. Choose An existing account.
  7. Enter the email address and password for the existing account you wish to transfer this profile to.
  8. Confirm by selecting transmission profile.
