The statement read, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Lockwood & Co will not be returning for a second season…”

“To the fans – to Lock Nation – you really were the greatest. We can’t thank you enough for how much you embraced, celebrated and loved the show.”

“We are particularly proud of the talented young actors who brought Jonathan’s beloved characters to the screen with such warmth, charm and vulnerability.”

“Ruby, Cameron and Ali were our perfect Lucy, Lockwood and George. We couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated and talented trio.”

“All three are superstars and we can’t wait to see them shine in the bright future that undoubtedly awaits.”

Lockwood & Co. fans were devastated by the news and eagerly awaited the next series.

Some took to social media to express their shock and outrage at the recent announcement and threatened to boycott Netflix.

One said: “My kids and I are absolutely devastated by this. Daughter grieving like she’s lost a friend @NetflixUK has a lot to answer for.”

Another wrote: “This is so disappointing – especially knowing that they canceled the series for another/new series which probably won’t be in theaters after Season 1 either. We also always knew Netflix was in it for the money.”

A third wrote: “So devastating to see such an amazing show being tossed aside by @netflix but this is the norm for them now.”

A fourth added: “It is. BOYCOTT NETFLIX BRU, THIS IS A JOKE. First Julie and the Phantoms.. NOW LOCKWOOD AND CO? BRUH THEY DO TERRIBLE STUFF AND CANCEL ALL THE GOOD STUFF.”

The supernatural thriller is based on the books by Jonathan Stroud.

The film is set in an alternative London riddled with ghosts only visible to the young.

The cast included Bridgeton’s Ruby Stokes, as well as newcomers Cameron Chapman and Ali Hadji-Heshmati, who delivered sensational performances.

Netflix’s cancellation of Lockwood & Co. follows the cancellation of other series such as National Treasure: Edge of History, The Winchesters and Fantasy Island.

This was due to low viewership and the writers’ strike.

This worrying trend of abrupt cancellations has fans wondering which popular Netflix TV show will be dropped next.
