Netflix orders a revival of ABC reality series The Mole

After 14 years off-air, Netflix brings The Mole back in rotation, acc diversity. The ABC reality game show based on the Belgian format was called De Molaired from 2001 to 2008.

Per the diversity report Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of the revival. The competitive game show pits 12 players against each other for money, but one person in the group is “The Mole,” a production-assigned role who attempts to sabotage the group’s money-making efforts. A player must try to outlast the competition and identify the mole to win the cash prize.

Anderson Cooper hosted the show’s first two seasons, which featured regular civilian contestants. Later seasons included some prominent contestants.

Netflix is resurrecting The Mole

We don’t know too much about the revival just yet, other than the fact that Netflix is planning it. So we don’t know if Cooper will return or if the contestants will be civilians or celebrities or not, maybe there will be a mix of both.

Eureka Productions will produce the show, with David Tibballs, David Burris, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, Rikkie Proost and Chris Culvenor serving as executive producers.

Netflix appears to be beefing up its non-scripted content given the success of its many reality, competition, cooking, home improvement, and other shows. Unscripted shows tend to be cheaper to produce, so it’s not too surprising given the streaming service is looking to cut costs and slow content spending.

Appropriately, you can watch two seasons of the ABC version on Netflix right now. While the entire series is unavailable, seasons 3 and 4 are currently streaming. Netflix orders a revival of ABC reality series The Mole
