KHAMZAT Chimaev was reportedly involved in a shocking backstage brawl at a chaotic UFC event.
Chimaev, 28, has clashed with fighter Kevin Holland and forced a red-faced Dana White to cancel the UFC 279 press conference.
UFC President White opened up the belated Las Vegas press conference, announcing an “absolute s*** show back there” – but he would not confirm if a brawl would have ensued between the fighters.
The press conference only lasted about five minutes, with Kevin Holland and Daniel Rodriguez making brief appearances onstage for a quick interview before the entire event shut down, ESPN reported.
“My apologies, everyone,” White said, addressing the crowd. “I’m in very strange waters here. This has never happened in the history of this company.
“Trust me when I tell you that not doing this press conference right now is the right decision,” he added, to a barrage of boos.
“Yes, I understand you. I’m with you, but for everyone’s safety, this is the right decision. I apologize. Thanks for coming,” he added.
White later said: “This is the craziest press conference we’ve ever had, that’s for sure.
“This is a first and I guarantee it will be the last.”
ESPN reported that Chimaev approached Holland backstage and hit him with a front kick before being pulled away by Li Jingliang, who fought Tony Ferguson on Saturday.
A source told ESPN that members of Nate’s team began arguing with Chimaev and Tiki Ghosn before throwing bottles at their respective teams.
According to White, Ghosn was hit in the head with water bottles and repeatedly punched and kicked.
Earlier this week, speaking to ESPN, Chimaev said he was ready to fight Diaz and his team ahead of the main event.
“If they want to fight before (Saturday), screw the money bro, I’ll fight with them. I love to fight,” he said.
“I was born for war. I’m in a warrior, never mind. When the fight comes, you don’t care about money or what’s behind it, just fight.”
‘I’M A WARRIOR’
The latest controversy comes after Diaz revealed he almost “beat up” UFC President White at a Las Vegas nightclub.
The youngest Diaz brother has enjoyed a colorful relationship with the MMA mogul over the years.
Diaz didn’t agree with White or the UFC brassers last year – he accused the promotion of “rolling him slowly” and tried to extend his contract for as long as possible.
But the latest feud isn’t the first time he’s had trouble with White, whom he nearly slapped his patented Stockton smack after an argument many moons ago.
He told ESPN: “I almost beat up Dana White in a club here once too, you should have seen it.
I almost beat up Dana White.
“He talked shit and I argued with him. I was mad at him – I shouldn’t have been mad at him, I get that.
“It’s been a long time since Gilbert [Melendez] made The Ultimate Fighter.
“Everyone had left the show and then we went to the club when Dana and she had a big after party and then Dana was everything [drunk].
“He’s all, ‘What’s up, motherf****r?’ I thought, ‘What’s going on?’ And he tells me of: ‘What do you want?’
“I was like, ‘What the hell do you think I want? More money and better fights than everyone here.’
“But that’s because I’ve never been title-chasing at that point.”
Veteran fight promoter White downplayed the incident earlier this week.
On Tuesday, he said with a smile on his face: “Supposedly. Supposedly. We were drinking.”
