Kanawha County Police were originally called to the home for a social check on August 19 after neighbors said the home’s owner had not been seen in weeks.

Police then found the body in a freezer under a tarpaulin, although it’s unclear what prompted them to examine the unit.

On Saturday, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a body was found at the address.

It was a shocking discovery for neighbors who live in the area.

“It was a little crazy. We knew something was wrong,” neighbor Chris Britton told 13 News.

“There’s always trouble here, especially on this side of the road.”

Britton said he suspected something was wrong when police first showed up.

“Once the 15 police officers were here, we knew something really bad had happened,” he said.

Investigators have not released the woman’s identity or her death.

Neighbors said two men lived in the home, but their connection to the discovery, if any, is unknown.

The body was removed from the freezer and sent to the coroner’s office.
