Mystery as human foot in shoe washes up on beach in New Zealand

A FOOT in a shoe was found by a passerby after washing up on a popular beach.

The horrifying find was made around 8am local time on Saturday at Petone Beach in Wellington, New Zealand.

Petone Beach is a popular beach spot for locals and tourists alike.

Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Williamson said while police are in the early stages of the investigation, it is not being treated as a homicide.

A land and water search near where the foot was found was conducted but nothing further was found.

“Formal identification of the foot will take place in due course,” Detective Senior Sergeant Williamson said.
