Mystery as another US citizen goes missing in Mexico and the FBI takes a big step in the investigation after four Americans are kidnapped

ANOTHER US citizen has disappeared in Mexico in an ongoing mystery as the FBI took its investigation into the country one step further after four more Americans were kidnapped.

The FBI is offering a sizeable reward to anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Maria del Carmen Lopez, 63.

Lopez was reportedly kidnapped from her home in Mexico over a month ago, and authorities have had few leads since then, according to Mercury News.

On February 9, the 63-year-old was abducted from her home in Pueblo Nuevo, a community in Mexico’s southwestern state of Colima, according to an official statement from the FBI’s Los Angeles field office.

The Colima Attorney General’s office also determined that Lopez was a dual Mexican citizen and that her officers would work side-by-side with the office to find her.

The FBI released little information about the case.

They described Lopez as having blonde hair, brown eyes, and tattooed eyeliner for those to keep an eye out.

The FBI is probably hoping to get more people into it since the announced reward amount was $20,000.

Anyway, this missing persons case comes not long after a harrowing situation in which four Americans were kidnapped in Mexico.

Not to mention that only two survived the ordeal.

CARTEL CHAOS

As previously reported by The US Sun, four American travelers were reportedly arrested on March 3 after driving to the city of Matamoros, in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

Latavia “Tay” McGee, her cousin Shaeed Woodard, and their friends Eric James Williams and Zindell Brown have been kidnapped.

Brown’s sister, Zalandria, told the FBI that her younger brother and two other friends were staying with a third friend who wanted cosmetic “tummy tuck” surgery.

Things went south after arriving in Matamoros in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates.

They reportedly came under fire from Mexican cartels that investigators believe Americans mistook for Haitian drug smugglers, US officials told CNN.

The most prominent cartel in Matamaros is said to be the “Gulf Cartel”.

US and Mexican authorities finally found the group on March 7 after being held hostage in a remote cabin.

Woodard and Brown were killed in a shootout, while McGee and Williams survived the ordeal.

Williams had been shot multiple times in the legs, but none of the wounds were reportedly life-threatening.

Mexican officials later found suspected cartel members tied up and beaten with a note apologizing for some members’ violence.

The letter read: “We have decided to extradite those who were directly involved in the events and responsible, who acted at all times based on their own decision-making and lack of discipline.”

It went on to say that the cartel gunmen who opened fire violated the criminal organization’s “rules,” which include “respecting the lives and well-being of innocent people.”

The group asked forgiveness from the “American families and people of Matamoros”.

The US Sun also has the story of a Spring Break alert for Mexico issued by US officials as they warn the area is “too dangerous” due to alleged cartel movements.
