MYSTERY surrounds the discovery of a body wrapped in a blanket found in a suitcase in Southern California.
Investigators say it appears the man died elsewhere before the body was taken to an alley and left in the car.
Garbage workers were in the area when they found the body around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, police said to local media.
Workers contacted law enforcement, who found a body wrapped in a blanket in the trunk of a blue 2019 Honda Insight, NBC San Diego reported.
Police confirmed the body was that of a 42-year-old man.
The car was parked in an alley in the Mountain View neighborhood.
However, the San Diego Police Department noted that this is an ongoing mystery.
They indicated the victim likely died elsewhere before being found in the blue Honda.
The cause of death is also awaiting confirmation from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police have not yet released the man’s name and are still investigating the strange circumstances surrounding his death.
Mountain View is located in southeast San Diego, just over 5 miles from the Coronado Bridge in Southern California.
Anyone with information about the ongoing investigation has been encouraged by the San Diego Police Department to come forward.
They were asked to call Homicide at 619-531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
