My sister was badly injured in a horrific holiday accident – she worries for her boyfriend who is fighting for his life

A YOUNG Brit who was seriously injured in a horror moped accident has told how she is “sickly worried” about her boyfriend who is fighting for his life.
Brave Joella Senior has now been transferred from intensive care to a ward in the same hospital in Bali, where her partner Alex Hoyle is in a coma with head injuries and a broken back.

Her older sister Teya Brooker has opened up about the heartbreak for both families after the couple’s dream trip to the Indonesian island turned into a nightmare.
Elementary school teacher Teya said, “My sister has the biggest heart and worries about everyone else, not herself. She said she’s very concerned for Alex and knows the extent of his injuries while dealing with her own.”
“She’s in so much pain herself and exhausted, but all she cares about is Alex and our families.”
Mum-of-two Teya, from Corley, Warwickshire, who was on the phone with her sister, said: “We told her not to worry about us anymore and that she needs to get better.”

Teya, 29, whose 30th birthday is just weeks away, said: ‘We have to look at the positive. She survived. But since the accident everything has been so blurry.”
She opened up about how difficult it was to strike up a conversation with Joella in an exclusive interview with The Sun Online, saying: “We try to talk but she’s having a hard time. She’s in so much pain and exhausted so let’s keep it short and sweet but positive.”
“She knows Alex is really down and it’s really hard for her because she can’t see him. He’s still in intensive care.”
Teya, who has taken a career break to look after her young daughter and son, told her university lecturer, Jeni Hall, that she flew to Bali yesterday and arrived safely.
She said: “Mum was incredible and very strong.”
Joella, a social media coordinator for various companies, fractured her back in the crash on the third day of her “vacation of a lifetime” in Kerobokan, North Kuta, on the evening of June 12.
The couple’s Honda Vario scooter had collided with a car and another moped.
Joella also fractured both her arms, collarbone and cheekbones and has a damaged lung.
Her sister said: “The punctured lung is a problem and is causing her delay in returning home. We don’t know when she will be fit enough to go home.”
She added how grateful both families and friends are to the “incredible doctors” at Balinese Main Hospital.
Joella’s ex-fiancé Luke Howitt said he “hopes and prays the couple make a full recovery and return home safely.”
He shared how he communicated with his former girlfriend, who he remains friends with, and said: “I’m trying to keep her spirits up. She has spinal and other injuries and will need so much rest and physio.”
“Alex is in a coma and his parents and sister are by his side.”
“I haven’t spoken to her about the accident, but she knows how badly Alex is injured. We all hope he pulls through and that they can get home together.”
Luke, 28, said the huge response to the fundraiser – today (June 23) at almost £81,384 of the £100,000 target to pay the couple’s medical bills – was “just amazing”.
The home renovator told The Sun Online how he stayed friends with Joella despite their split and knows her new boyfriend.
He said: “We were together for 10 years but grew apart. Happens. But we’re still friends after some distance and we share two dogs together and I just hope she’s okay and so is Alex.”
“She’s in a lot of pain and can’t see Alex. They’ve been a couple at least all year, maybe even earlier, and we’re thinking of them both.”
The injured couple’s close friends, Georgie Steel and Oli Rowland, shared in a new post on the JustGiving fundraiser how Joella had made some progress after undergoing extensive surgery.
They wrote: “Joella’s surgeries to repair her misplaced fractures in both of her forearms, to stabilize fractures in her vertebrae, and to flatten her collarbone and cheekbone have all gone very well.
“Although the surgeries were a success, Joella still has a long road to recovery and she finds herself in tremendous post-surgery pain as her body tries to recover from the stress the surgeries have put her through.”
The picture is bleaker for Alex, who is in critical condition and sedated in intensive care with “no known timetable for when he will wake up.”
They wrote: “He will require many more surgeries including repairs to serious injuries to his jaw, cheekbones and temporal bones. Unfortunately, Alex still has a long way to go before he recovers.”
