She claims to have never complained about her old car

“My boyfriend surprised me with a new car about a month ago. I’m so happy and so grateful,” she began in her Reddit post.

“My old car still works fine, it’s outdated but I’ve never complained about it. Me and my boyfriend really never fought but these days it sucks.

“I think it was because he was stressed at work.

“But now he goes home and drinks. He is very loud and obnoxious.

“Everything he said always started with: ‘I just bought you a new car and you should worship me.” He mentioned it a lot.

“When I was trying to sell my old car, I had a few people interested but they decided they didn’t want it.”

“My boyfriend was furious. He was acting like it was my fault, they didn’t want it and he said that whatever money I got from the sale of the car needed to go to him. “, she continued.

“That makes sense, but I never asked him to buy me a car. I never agonized over my old one.

“I was tired of the rude comments he would make so I told him the only reason he bought me the car was so he could have something over my head.

“I told him to sell the car new or return it.

“He called me ungrateful.

“Even though I’ve never raised my voice to him, he hasn’t spoken to me all day. This whole thing is frustrating.”

The majority of comments on her post defended her decision to return the gift if he continued to throw it in her face.

One user wrote: “You are not a**hole. A gift with conditions is not a gift”.

Others suggested she watch out for other strange behaviors from her partner.

A second said: “If you decide to take your parents’ advice, don’t get the new car.

“He could go as far as to put GPS in there. I know that sounds crazy, but I actually know a few people who have done this for their significant other.”

“He’s not buying you a gift, he’s buying himself leverage,” said a third.

Although grateful, she doesn't think it's a good idea to keep the new car
