My father’s dragon is an upcoming family animated film created by Oscar-nominated studio Cartoon Saloon. The adaptation of Ruth Stiles Gannett’s Newbery-winning children’s book was announced by Netflix back in 2018, but after several delays and setbacks, the highly-anticipated feature film is finally making its way onto our Netflix screens in 2022!

Release date of My Father’s Dragon

After almost four years of waiting for the release of My father’s dragonNetflix has finally announced that the upcoming animated adaptation – of the Newbery Award-winning children’s book of the same name by Ruth Stiles Gannett – will make its debut at the 66th BFI London Film Festival in October 2022!

It will then be released on the streaming giant in November 2022, although an exact date has yet to be announced.

The cast of My Father’s Dragon

The upcoming family movie has an outstanding cast to voice the animated characters. At the top is none other than “Boris the Dragon”. stranger things Gaten Matarazzo, who will surely put a fun twist on the striped dragon. He is joined as the runaway Elmer Elevator by Jacob Tremblay, who at just 16 has already amassed an impressive rap sheet of acting/voice credits. My Father’s Dragon Synopsis

The official synopsis according to Netflix Media Center reads:

“After moving to town with his mother, Elmer struggles to get by and runs off in search of Wild Island and a young dragon waiting to be rescued. Elmer’s adventures introduce him to wild beasts, a mysterious island, and the friendship of a lifetime.”

The film, written by Ruth Stiles Gannett and Meg LeFauve, will be directed by Nora Twomey.
