A TEENAGE girl spent her life on the phone so much that her family decided to honor her gravestone with a phone, her brother said.
TikToker Geoff Matautia said that his GenZ Sister was “on the phone all the time,” prompting her family to make a shockingly creative choice for her headstone.

“When our sister died, we made her cell phone her tombstone because she was always on it,” he said original video said in a post that amassed over 2.8 million likes.
“If you see that in the Manukau Memorial Gardens, it was us,” the brother said @ssouthsides of the tomb in New Zealand.
In follow-up videos, the brother reveals that the elaborate headstone for 15-year-old Theresa Matautia includes both inscriptions from the scriptures and a giant telephone-shaped structure on top of the grave.
Messages written to the late teenager, who died by suicide in 2018, can be seen on the screen of the fake iPhone from her grieving family.
“The reason for this was because my sister was just on the phone all the time,” said the TikTok user.
He then showed several videos of his late sister on her phone as evidence, then said she was “pretty glued to this thing.”
Geoff also revealed that the phone’s display on the tombstone shows a group chat of seven people – representing the number of people in Theresa’s immediate family.
However, he did point out that the giant phone indicates it’s connected to Wi-Fi – although he joked that the graveyard didn’t have a great signal.
In response to TikTok users who seemed upset by the family’s creative decision to have a headstone, he advised them to “just laugh.”
“We give you permission to laugh at this video. Not everyone deals with loss the same way, and our family did it differently.”
Many social media users commented on the videos to express their love for the unique idea.
“One of the most unique I’ve ever seen, may she rest in peace,” read one reply.
“She would love that. And 50 years from now her grave will be extremely cool because of the story,” said one commenter.
“This is so cute but I’d be cackling from the grave,” joked another.
Others commented on how the phone could use an upgrade.
“Please update iPhone regularly, she deserves the new ones!” said one commenter.
Geoff even joked about the outdated version of the phone, saying: “I would be crazy that it’s an IPhone 5/SE.”
