JAMES silver credited his mother Patricia’s tough love for helping him overcome his life-threatening cocaine and binge eating addictions.
The 34-year-old has dropped a whopping 14 stone after most recently undergoing gastric sleeve surgery after nearly losing his life to his addiction.
But now Arg has revealed the crucial role Patricia played in his road to recovery.
“My mother said to me, ‘I don’t recognize my son anymore’ – and that really got me,” he told the Mirror.
“It went through my head and it was a big turning point for me to want to change.”
Then Patricia made the tough call to tone down her support for Arg after receiving advice from advisors.
She revealed: “I have my son back. I am proud of him.
“It’s been one hell of a journey and it kind of brought us closer as a family. I’m not ashamed of anything.”
Arg added: “Mom was advised by therapists to take a big step back and it’s difficult because it’s not natural. She wouldn’t want to do it, but she had done it. It was hard.”
Patricia explained how difficult it was for her to break away from Arg at its deepest.
“I’m a sissy. Obviously I loved him unconditionally, but learning about addiction didn’t really help him,” she said.
“I had to walk away and realize I can’t make him any better. It was scary because I never turned my back on him.”
Ahead of Mother’s Day, Arg revealed how important his mother was to him.

“My mother means the world to me. We’re obviously very, very close,” he said.
“Obviously the reason I bought a house five houses down is that I feel safer being around my mum and the fact that we can see each other every day.
“My mother doesn’t need an invitation.
“She lets herself in, but the rules are that if I’m not dressed or entertaining friends, she has to ring the doorbell first.”
The former Towie star also opened up about how bad he was at the lowest point of his addiction.
“I locked my doors, didn’t answer the phone, nobody could reach me for days,” he said
“There was a time when I was depressed in my bedroom, eating comfort and not seeing anyone.
“I knew big decisions had to be made and I wanted to change once and for all.”
Arg added: “It’s not nice to see your son lying in bed depressed, not wanting to leave the house, not recognizing him because he’s put on so much weight – and it’s been a dangerous time too.
“I have asthma and at 27 if I had gotten Covid I very likely would not have gotten over it.
“So I wasn’t just worried about my mental health, I was worried about my physical health as well. It was a scary time.”
Patricia added: “I didn’t recognize him when he had put on so much weight and I was just so worried.
“It was his health. I was petrified. Now I feel like we are closer as a family. He’s making progress, take care of himself.”
Arg’s weight loss was also inspired by Patricia.
“My mother is a great inspiration to me. She struggled with her weight for years,” he revealed.
“Before I had the surgery, my mother actually lost five kilos. She has vowed she wants to feel and look her best for her daughter’s wedding day – and she’s managed to keep the weight off.
“I saw what a difference it made in her life and how much it changed her.”
Arg declared, “It was the best thing I’ve ever done,” he says. “It’s important that you don’t forget how bad it was – and to make sure I keep working on myself.
“Now we are positive and moving forward. One day at a time.”
Although Arg has lost a lot of weight since he finished 27th, doctors have told him that he has lost a little too much and needs to gain more.
He told The Sun: “The only problem now is I’ve lost a little too much weight and I need to put on half a stone.
“Everyone thinks it’s hilarious, we didn’t think we’d ever be in this situation, but for me it’s either way – it’s just me!”
