Several residents were injured when a fire broke out overnight at an apartment building in Providence, Rhode Island.

Providence firefighters were called to the homes above Uncle Ben’s Liquor Store on Douglas Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to WJAR, to report a fire.

When they got there, heavy flames were already erupting from several floors of the building.

Some residents had to be taken to nearby hospitals, but the fire department did not provide an exact number.

“When the emergency services arrived, the first, second and third groups showed fire. “There were occupants who had to be pulled from the building and were taken to the hospital by emergency responders,” said Providence Fire Battalion chief Joe Paiva.

No firefighters were injured fighting the fire.

The building is believed to have sustained significant damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
