John Hao, 20, a Chinese student at MSU, was shot in the back and the bullet hit his spinal cord, causing paralysis from the chest down and a lung injury, according to his roommate Argent Qian.
The young student is in stable condition in intensive care while his family faces “significant financial distress” following the attack, believed to have been perpetrated by suspected gunman Anthony McRae.
In a statement, Qian explained his injured roommate’s family hurdles during this difficult time, Detroit News reported.
“Because of Covid they are already heavily in debt and John’s critical injuries are increasing the pressure on the family to the point that not only will their parents have to pay off the debt going forward, but they will also have to look after John without having to have any income since they are in the US without speaking English.”

According to Qian, Hao’s parents traveled from China to Michigan to be with their son.
“He can never go to state parks to look at the stars like he used to,” Qian said.
The roommate further explained that Hao “dreams of traveling the world and having a career in sports management.
“However, his ongoing medical and physical needs will also place a significant financial burden on his family.”
A GoFundMe launched in honor of Hao surpassed $320,000 just hours after it was launched.
In a statement Saturday night, Qian said, “John and his family are grateful for the support from the MSU community.”
The statement further explained that John “is a leader in China’s MSU student community and his family hopes he can return to campus to complete his studies and achieve his goal of working in sports management.”
A GoFundMe was also created in honor of Guadalupe Huapilla-Perez, one of the other four wounded students who were in critical condition after the horror shooting.
VICTIMS REVEALED
Heartbreaking details have emerged about the three victims who lost their lives in the shooting.
All three were students attending MSU, officials said.
The shooting alleged the lies of Arielle Diamond Anderson, 19, Brian Fraser and Alexandria Verner, both 20.
On the night of the shooting, Diamond’s family asked for help locating her, having not heard from her since the shooting was reported.
Diamond’s aunt and Flavor of Love reality star Deelishis implored her Instagram followers: “My beautiful niece @ariellediamond_ is a student at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY.
“She was in her classroom in the same building as the active shooter and we have not heard from her.
“If you know her whereabouts please contact me … in the meantime my family and I ask for your prayers.”
Fraser was a sophomore at MSU while Verner was a junior, police said.
Fraser was chapter president of the college’s Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
The “heartbroken” fraternity paid tribute to him via Instagram, saying: “Brian was our leader and we loved him.
“He cared deeply about his brothers Phi Delt, his family, Michigan State University and Phi Delta Theta.
“We will miss Brian greatly and deeply mourn his passing as our chapter supports one another at this difficult time.”
Verner’s death was confirmed in a statement from the Clawson Public Schools.
“She was a great student, athlete, leader and exemplary kindness every day of her life!” Clawson’s Superintendent emailed students, faculty and parents.
“Her parents, Ted and Nancy, as well as sister Charlotte and brother TJ, are all in mourning but certainly already feel the uplifting support of this amazing community.
Michael McRae said he didn’t know how many people his son had killed until Tuesday morning during his interview with NBC.
“Wow, oh my god,” he said. “I really don’t believe it, but I know it’s true.”
He claimed that his son had no experience of violence: “He wasn’t like that.

“So he wasn’t a threat to anyone. He’s never done anything so crazy.”
