WITH delicate plants to tend and soil to feed, gardening is one of the toughest hobbies.
And unwanted colonies of ants don’t make the job any easier either – but a fan of the cleaning talent, Ms. Hinch, has found the perfect remedy.
With the warmer weather – but not this week – these insects are taking over the green spaces again.
But one savvy enthusiast has shared a hack that promises to kill ants “instantly.”
Not only does the ant killer machine contain no harmful chemicals, it costs next to nothing and is most likely already in your kitchen cupboard.
Ms. Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, is a cleaning guru who rose to fame for sharing clever tidying, DIY and now gardening tips.
With a total of a whopping 4.4 million followers on Instagram, many of her fans have also started their own gardening and cleaning groups on social media.
In one of these groups, Mrs. Hinch Gardening Tips, a member sought advice from fellow fans on how to help their pest-infested garden space.
”Help! My whole garden is infested with ants. I don’t mean a few, they almost took over,” Liz Balderson-Storey wrote.
“I have a large garden and have tried so many organic solutions but they just keep getting worse.
She continued: “Even walking on the grass and standing for a minute or two leaves you have covered with ants. Does somebody has any idea?”
Although Liz’s post received a few dozen comments, two baking ingredients seemed to be the most popular remedy.

“Use powdered sugar with some baking soda to sprinkle around the nest and it will kill them all in an instant,” June Allen claimed.
Vick Walker agreed, adding, “Put the powdered sugar and baking soda in a shallow container, like the lids of gravy grains, and leave them next to the affected areas.”
Alison Gee, another fan of the remedy, said this worked too and reminded to refill it every day.
A very similar hack was recently shared by a TikToker, JoAnn, who explained that the sweet smell and taste of sugar will attract the bugs.
According to her, all avid gardeners need to do is mix some Mule Team Borax with some sugar and add it to a bottle filled with some water.
About a day later, she claimed, the unwelcome visitors were killed.
There was also one Mrs. Hinch fanatic who claimed that any powder would drive colonies of ants out of the garden.
For those wanting to try the hack, powdered sugar is only 85p at Sainsbury’s and just 59p at Tesco.
