Mother of 26-year-old tattoo artist who “disappeared without a trace” months ago berates “incompetent” police officers as body found at work

A TATTOO artist has been found dead after months of a desperate search for her disappearance, and now her mother is speaking out.

Manhattan-based tattoo specialist Drexyll Tolstoy, 26, had been missing in New York City for six months before his body was discovered last week.

Drexyll Tolstoy, 26, was found dead earlier this week after a thorough search had been conducted for over six months since the tattoo artist went missing

The somber update was revealed on Friday via a GoFundMe page originally set up to help fund the search for Tolstoy.

“I’m sorry everyone. Drexyll’s body was found a few days ago,” wrote the tattoo artist’s mother, Kellie Tolstoy.

“They had to use dental records to identify my son. He was found behind his work building.”

The mother also claimed that the New York City Police Department missed important information during the investigation, going so far as to call the officers “incompetent.”

“The NYPD is appallingly incompetent and incredibly rude,” she wrote.

The mother’s frustration likely stemmed from the fact that police and family members had been searching for months without doing anything since Tolstoy was seen leaving his workplace in security camera footage dated Sept. 25, according to The Daily Beast.

The tattoo artist was officially reported missing the following day.

From this point on, the investigation seemingly ventured in other directions and places to find out where Tolstoy might have gone or where he might have been taken.

Ultimately, police later discovered additional surveillance camera footage from a nearby hotel showing Tolstoy returning to work the night he left, prompting them to search the work site again.

Tolstoy’s body was then found Monday behind a commercial building at 39 West 32nd Street, where the tattoo shop where he worked is located, according to the Daily News.

“It shouldn’t take six months to find someone hundreds of yards from where they disappeared,” Kellie wrote in the post on GoFundMe.

A cause of Tolstoy’s death has yet to be released by the coroner’s office, and questions remain about his death.

Tolstoy’s mother added that her son’s Venmo account was allegedly emptied on March 7th.

She also asked where the phone, hooded sweatshirt and groceries her son was seen carrying on surveillance video were found.

In January, according to Macomb Daily, Kellie stated that disappearing immediately was unlike her son.

“Something’s wrong; he’s never disappeared or gone silent like this before,” she told the publication.

“It’s like he’s vanished – there’s been no activity in his bank account or on any of his social media and he hasn’t used his MetroCard for public transport.”
