A severe weather warning has been issued threatening flash flooding, large hail and possible tornadoes following a heatwave last weekend.

The threat of thunderstorms exists across much of the United States as they move along a cold front.

According to The Weather Channel, areas from Texas to Maine will be affected, with the possibility of tornadoes in the Southeast.

The heaviest rain is said to be in the south, with Mobile, Alabama expected to rain up to 2 to 3 inches heavy, with areas to the east expected to get less wet weather.

The threat will continue Tuesday through Wednesday morning for much of central Texas, including the Austin metropolitan area.

Texas is dealing with one of the driest May months on record, according to KXAN.

The cold front moving east will provide relief until the heat wave at the weekend.

More than 10 million people were under a heat warning in the northeast on Sunday.

Record temperatures were measured from Washington DC to New Hampshire.
