More than 645,000 Americans miss $1,400 worth of stimulus checks

To qualify for the full $1,400 check, singles must earn $75,000 or less or $150,000 for couples.

Beyond these thresholds, payments begin to decline, phasing out completely at $80,000 and $160,000, respectively.

While most have received their stimulus payments, a report released this week by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) identified “644,705 potentially eligible individuals” who had not received their money by mid-September.

Overall, the missing funds exceeded 1.6 billion US dollars.

Who has not received a stimulus check?

In particular, TIGTA identified certain groups that did not receive stimulus payments.

This includes the following, along with the number of people in each group who did not receive their payments:

  • Individuals with an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) who have a qualifying dependent – this affects 419,822 individuals
  • Those entitled to be excluded from unemployment benefits – 133,578 people are affected
  • Those incorrectly flagged as residents of a US territory – affected 51,639 people
  • Those who submitted amendments or had an unresolved condition on their tax account – affecting 39,666 people

In addition, TIGTA said another 294,274, in addition to the 644,705, have reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that they have not received a payment despite being issued one.

This group also includes those who have not activated their RRC debit cards, also known as EIP (Economic Impact Payment) cards.

This is how you get your money

The TIGTA has notified the IRS of the groups that have not received economic assistance payments.

The agency has agreed to consider affected individuals other than 133,578 individuals excluded from unemployment benefits, as well as “implemented program changes,” according to the TIGTA.

In addition, TIGTA said 417,749 of the 419,822 people with eligible dependents will be considered for the payments.

In order to get your money, you have to file a tax return.

Eligible beneficiaries can claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.

The tax return deadline this year is April 18, which means you have less than a month to get your money.
