MIDLAND, Texas – New details have been released about the murder of David Demick, 54, which occurred early Sunday morning at a Midland hotel.

Shortly after the Midland Police Department posted CCTV footage of the Wyndham Hotel, Midland Crime Stoppers said it received five separate pieces of advice from people in the community that helped identify the suspect as Javon Elliston, 26 age.

Police said Demick checked the hotel after he was unable to find a ride home from a local bar. And according to his sister, Jody Rosenbrock, he couldn’t find friends to drive him home and the safe choice was not to drive home but instead choose to stay at a nearby hotel.

Rosenbrock said: “He went and stayed at the hotel where he was found and he checked himself in.

According to police, Elliston was spotted walking down a hallway near Demicks’ room at around 2 a.m.

Camera footage from the hotel then shows Elliston approaching Demicks’ door and waiting outside his room. Elliston then appeared to immediately punch Demick, which police said sparked an altercation between the two.

Rosenbrock adds: “My brother is not a big man, but I know he can hold his own.

A hotel employee was later sent to the room to check for noise complaints, after a neighboring room reported hearing noises and someone shouting, “You’re going to die tonight.”

After entering the room, they said the door was slightly open and someone inside said they were naked and kept tight.

Rosenbrock said, “I want justice, no one deserves to have their life taken away.”

Police said no one had ever left the room when hotel staff were there, and told staff that the noise was coming from another room.

Elliston was then seen several hours later, leaving the room with two white bags full of what police believe to be Demicks’ belongings and wearing a coat that police also believe to be Demicks. Elliston was then seen leaving the hotel and was not seen on any other cameras in the area.

“I like to think things are different from what we know, and that’s painful,” Rosenbrock said.

Footage from the hallway was later released to the public by the Midland Police Department. Soon after, the Midland Crime Stoppers received some advice on identifying Javon Elliston, including one from his ex-girlfriend.

Elliston was arrested Monday night and charged with murder. He has since been placed in the Midland County Jail.

“I hope that person or whatever has happened knows that, you know, taking someone’s life is not right,” Rosenbrock said.

Based on current information, the MPD believes Javon Elliston intentionally killed David Demick, that night in the Wyndham Hotel.

The incident is still under investigation and we will update with more information as soon as we find out.
