CHARLOTTE Hornets player Montrezl Harrel has been charged with drug trafficking after he found three pounds of weed in his car during a traffic stop in May.
Harrel was pulled over by a Kentucky state trooper for driving a 2020 rental Honda Pilot too close to the car in front of him when officers said they smelled marijuana.
The athlete admitted to having the drugs on him and pulled a “small amount” out of his sweatpants, according to the police report.
During a search of his vehicle, officer Jesse Owens said he found “three pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags” in a backpack in the back seat.
His indictment was scheduled for Monday morning.
Harrell was charged with trafficking under five pounds of marijuana, a Class D felony for first-time offenders in the state.
He faces up to five years in prison and a $1,000 to $10,000 fine.
