Monthly ‘lottery’ payments between $200 and $400 scheduled for April – see if you’re eligible for new stimulus check

HUNDREDS of residents were selected through a lottery system to receive up to $400 a month.

The Chelsea Eats program in Chelsea, Massachusettes, provides monthly payments to 738 residents.

The payments are designed to help low-income families with the rising costs of daily living, including groceries and utilities.

The program is funded with $800,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act, a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2021.

HOW HIGH ARE THE PAYMENTS?

The amount of the payments depends on the size of the household.

Households of one person receive $200, households of two persons receive $300, and households of three or more persons receive $400.

Payments are sent via a preloaded debit card that must be collected in person.

Funds went out on March 15 last month and is expected to be disbursed on the same day this month.

Another payment will be made in May.

This program required an application with strict income eligibility guidelines.

MORE PAYMENTS COMING

A similar program in Sacramento, California, offers monthly payments of $500.

The United Way California Capital Region worked with the city to set up the Guaranteed Income Program.

In the first phase, which ends in May, 100 households received $300 in monthly payments for a year.

Applications are now open for the second phase, which will offer 80 families $500 a month for a year.

Eligible residents have until April 15 at 2:59 p.m. to apply online.

This payment round starts on July 1st.

Meanwhile, another universal basic income program called BIG:LEAP is about to complete its payments.

More than 3,200 people in Los Angeles were provided $1,000 a month for a year.

In all, over $38.4 million was distributed to help low-income residents pay for essentials like rent, utilities and medical expenses.
