A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries, KCAL-TV reported.
A second person was injured and also taken to the hospital.
They have not been identified and the extent of their injuries is unknown.
Witnesses ran to a nearby Target store, but bosses were concerned a potential suspect might have gone inside, prompting an evacuation.
The store later received the all-clear.
Police have made no arrests while their investigation continues.
It comes just days after a suspect fired at least six shots with an AR-15 rifle at a Target store in West Omaha, Nebraska.
The Omaha Police Department said the shooter, believed to be in his 30s, was armed with “a lot of ammunition.”
The suspect was fatally shot after firing gunshots with officers.
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said it was unclear if the suspect shot anyone.
But the shell casings left on the ground indicated he had fired at least six rounds.
Shoppers and employees were seen fleeing in fear after hearing gunshots.
A Target employee told the Omaha World-Herald that he heard multiple gunshots.
Another witness, who declined to give her name, was shopping in the toy department when she heard gunshots.
She told the World-Herald: “I heard three shots. Everyone was in a panic. We all ran out of the store.”
