THE MOTHER who 30 years ago “cut her baby’s throat and buried him in her front yard” has surrendered to authorities.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said Friday Meaonia Michelle Allen, 53, surrendered to a special agent in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Allen had an outstanding warrant for first degree first degree murder.
A special agent working on the “Baby Deer” case began working with the Cold Case Unit, which included criminologists as part of the agency’s forensic science center.
The baby’s DNA sample was sent to Parabon Nanolabs in Reston, Virginia.
Further DNA testing in June led to the identification of Allen as the dead boy’s mother.
In a follow-up interview with law enforcement officials, Allen admitted to being the mother.
Allen submitted DNA samples during a June 15 interview with a special agent to determine “whether she was baby Doe’s biological mother.”
Shortly after her DNA was submitted, Allen confessed to being “Baby Doe’s” birth mother and “cutting the baby’s throat shortly after he was born,” according to the agency.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation director Ricky Adams said the baby’s killer can now be held accountable.
“The synergy between our agents and criminalists in resolving cold cases, particularly those involving an unidentified victim, is to be welcomed,” said Adams. “The identification of the use of genetic genealogy as a tool and the work of Parabon and our in-house genealogy specialist provided important clues in this disturbing case. Baby Doe can now be properly laid to rest and his killer brought to justice.”
“Baby Doe” was found dead on December 8, 1993, according to the agency, by someone who found the child in her front yard.
An autopsy was performed and the coroner said the baby was born alive and was killed “by having his throat cut”.
According to law enforcement, Allen worked at a daycare and reportedly did not tell other people that she was pregnant.
