Mom-of-two, 46, caught dodging in Mercedes while high on cocaine, claimed her ‘dog had a sick back’

A MOTHER caught driving while high on cocaine has claimed she only dodged the road because her “little dog had a bad back”.

Michelle McMullan, 46, of Manchester, told judges she had an “ongoing problem” with the drug.

Ms McMullen was stopped in her Mercedes last year as she was driving near Cheshire after she violently swerved.

Cops tested the mother-of-two for drugs after there was a “strong smell” of cannabis in the car.

The test revealed that she had cocaine and one of its byproducts in her system, and she was charged with driving under the influence.

However, she denied in court that she was dodging because of the drug’s effects.

Instead, she offered an unusual defense for her actions.

Defense attorney Chloe Gaffney told Stockport Magistrates Court: “The defendant has pleaded guilty and is accepting the prosecution’s case. There’s just a little quarrel, which is that she swerved across the street.

“She takes a little evasive action because her little dog was in the back of the vehicle and was nauseous. She pointed this out to officers when she was stopped.”

Aside from the crazy apology, however, McMullen accepted the charges.

Ms Gaffney went on to explain that her client had led an “extremely difficult and emotional life” and lost her job due to the pandemic.

She reported that Michelle had been “on and off” cocaine as a “coping mechanism” for the past five years, and that this use had increased by the time she was released.

McMullen was ordered to seek help for her addiction problems and was banned from driving for nearly two years.

Her legal team had argued that unpaid work was not a practical punishment as it now took her over four hours to drive her children to school since she had not driven since her arrest.
