Smith and Williams discussed All-Star Kyrie Irving the day after he was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks.

The root of their beef boiled down to, as Qerim told Smith, “Williams]thinks you’re too busy with Kyrie, too hard with Kyrie.”

Williams told Smith, “I’m not sitting up here on national television exonerating Kyrie Irving of any decision.

“I don’t go back and tell every decision. I’m just saying how interesting it is to me, it just has such a bigger dynamic.

“Especially with you. More than anyone else.”

Smith responded with, “Jay, you know what?

“I would like to ask you, do me a favor. Stop telling us what you find interesting and just tell us how you feel.

Then he said, “You say, ‘I find it interesting’, you always say that. Say what you say. What do you say?”

As the back-and-forth between the two heated up, Qerim chimed in and explained Smith Williams’ stance.

Smith’s growing frustration was evident, no more so than when Williams commented, “I don’t seem like the one being triggered right now.”

Again, Qerim had to step in and ask, “Are we talking about Kyrie or is this personal?”

Williams felt it was getting “personal” for Smith.

The experienced broadcaster was at the end of his strength.

Smith replied: “For me with Kyrie? You of all people with all that interest, you have the nerve to sit on national television and tell me to get personal with a player?

“I don’t lose sleep. I’m not losing sleep over Kyrie Irving.

“I’m passionate about the subjects I’m passionate about. I don’t blame you for getting personal in taking the positions you take.”

The two continued to go back and forth before Qerim finally ended the argument and tried to calm tempers by reminding them that “we’re all colleagues, we’re all teammates.”

She replied “No!!! It’s all love [heart emoji]”
