The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado in Jackson, Mississippi.
A tornado warning was issued in the area hours earlier, notifying residents that a series of storms were moving across the state’s central area.
Wind gusts are expected to reach between 60 and 80 miles per hour, potentially causing damage.
Traveling during the storm is dangerous due to high winds that could affect vehicles of all sizes.
Power outages in the area could also be a possibility.
“Power outages seen in Wilkinson, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Lincoln and Claiborne counties in SW MS due to high winds.”
The governor shared images of a fallen tree in the grounds of the mansion.
“Be safe friends!!”
Thousands of power outages have already been reported in the state due to the strong gusts of wind.
Accordingly PowerOutage.US, over 42,000 outages have been reported. Entergy Mississippi reported over 20,000 outages.
Another 5,000 outages were reported by Southern Pine Electric.
