We all know and love Mindy Kaling, and we also know and love her romantic teen comedy series on Netflix I have never. The third season of the hit series will start on Netflix in summer 2022, but the series has also been renewed for a fourth season.
However, I have never Season 4 will sadly be the final season of the fan-favorite comedy. It’s bittersweet, but at least we still have season 3 to look forward to. Ahead of Season 3’s release this summer, Mindy Kaling spoke about the decision to end the series.
As we’ve all learned these days, Netflix original series have a reduced shelf life. Some shows are getting canceled seemingly out of nowhere, while others tend to have shorter runtimes than we’re used to from TV series.
But the decision to quit I have never did not come from a Netflix cancellation. Rather, the decision to choose season four as the final season was a creative, character-driven choice to serve the narrative. Here’s what Kaling had to say about the ending of the series.
Mindy Kaling speaks Never Have I Ever Ends
Obviously there’s four years of high school and Mindy Kaling and those I have never The team realized that four seasons was the appropriate amount of time to tell Devi’s coming-of-age story.
Kaling informed Entertainment Tonight of the decision to end I have never:
“Four seasons for a high school show felt like it made sense. You can’t stay in high school forever. We’ve seen those shows. You’ve been in high school for 12 years. What is going on here? Also, the actors are getting older and it looks crazy for a 34-year-old to play a 15-year-old.”
As much as we would have loved to have watched Devi explore her future after high school, or even her first summer after graduation, the moment seems right to bring the series to a natural end rather than dragging out the finish line drag and finally jump shark.
It’s reassuring to know that the creative team will take care of the perfect and, as you know Devi, super messy ending to see our girl ride into the sunset. Kaling discussed the timing of the final season and said she feels good when the series ends.
“The great thing about doing it on Netflix is that we have to tell stories that traditional TV shows couldn’t necessarily tell, and that makes us feel good. We really told the story of this 15-year-old girl and it felt like the perfect amount of time.”
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Devi, Eleanor, Fabiola, Ben and Paxton I have never Season 4. But first, get ready to catch the latest episodes of the teenage rom-com coming to Netflix this summer.
