LEGENDARY boxer Mike Tyson will destroy workout partners in minutes not for fun – but to get home faster to watch TV.
Tyson often manages to turn his planned five-hour brainstorming sessions into less than 60-minute sabotage because he so desperately wants to watch the cartoon.
That’s insight from Tyson’s confidant, former bodyguard and personal chauffeur Rudy Gonzalez, who sat in the passenger seat during fights and house fights during New York’s infamous rise.
“When we practice in Vegas, his sessions run from 12pm to 5pm,” Gonzalez said.
“He would be the best man before asking his partners: ‘How are you today, how is your family?’
“Then he would take down all five such guys within an hour so there was no one left.
“I saw him punch the bag so hard it broke a few times from the chain and the other boxers would leave and say, ‘We’re not with you today. I don’t care how much money you have. . return it to me.’
“Whoever feels they want to catch him, he’ll hit them and they’ll snap their fingers. Soon they’ll pack up.

“So one day I asked, ‘Boss, I’m confused, isn’t this about engineering?
“He replied, ‘If I continue, we will miss the Tom and Jerry cartoon. ”
Tyson still retains his love of cartoons, having made his own series of Mike Tyson Mysteries for Adult Swim.
Gonzalez was by Tyson’s side as he rose from the most feared teen boxer in history to become the youngest heavyweight champion of all time at the age of 20.
Under the guidance of legendary trainer Cus D’Amato, who became Tyson’s legal guardian after serving a sentence in juvenile prison, he transformed from an old criminal. teen into a street-fighting delinquent and eventually a highly regarded powerful boxer.
While living with D’Amato at his Catskills home, his training was more focused.
BUILD A BOX FRANKENTEIN
D’Amato passed months before Tyson became the heavyweight champion in 1986.
“The first time I worked with him, he had to be home by 9pm because we ran 10 miles in the morning,” says Gonzalez.
“His manager Jim Jacob and coach Kevin Rooney with Cus will make sure I stick to that training schedule.
“Mike is very disciplined. He used to sit upstairs in his house studying boxing movies for hours, watching how the different fighters moved and delivered.
“Cus injected him with centuries of training. Peeping into the booing technique, he felt so clean and natural to him. Cus built a boxing Frankenstein.
“Cus would repeat to Mike from the beginning, ‘Did you know one day you’ll be the heavyweight champion of the world? “
“If you say it enough times, you believe it. And if you believe it, then you won’t doubt it.”
Gonzalez, whose book about his Tyson experience – The Inner Ring – is being developed into a cartoon, added that other employees were terrified of Tyson during his training.
Gonzalez has made headlines in the past with a book about his time with Tyson, pointing at the promoter Don King because of many star troubles.
He claimed King ‘made him psychologically hurt’, adding: “Mike’s story would have had a different ending had Cus lived longer.
“His sister Denise always made me promise to keep Mike away from Don, calling him a clown.”
He claimed that he witnessed ‘deception, betrayal and fraud perpetrated’ when Tyson
