Mike Tyson ‘pulled the *** away from’ WWF Stone Cold legend Steve Austin during souvenir work to avoid ‘looking like a punk’

MIKE TYSON had to ‘push’ WWF legend Stone Cold Steve Austin in an iconic duel between the two 24 years ago.

It occurred on an episode of Monday Night Raw in January 1998 as part of build up WrestleMania 14 and fans still talk about it to this day.

Promoter Vince McMahon invites heavyweight boxing legend Tyson into the ring to compete against The Texas Rattlesnake.

And Ice praised ‘Worst man on the planet’ by saying: “I respect what you’ve done in the world of boxing.

“But when you step into this ring, you’re messing with Stone Cold Steve Austin, and that’s something you shouldn’t do.

“What I’m telling you is I want a piece of Mike Tyson’s ass… I can beat you any day of the week, twice on Sunday.”

And after the wrestling icon showed Tyson two middle fingers, he responded by mercilessly shoving him to the ring floor.

Now, in an interview posted on It’s basically sports, Austin revealed what happened backstage before the clash.


He said, “I don’t know what Mike would say. I have broad opinions about it.

“But, it was just a deal where Mike went out and said what he said and I got in his face and exposed him.

“He had to push my *** off because if he just pushed me hard enough, he’d look like a punk. So he pushed the *** off me.”

It all happened around the time Iron Mike was fined £2.4m and had his boxing license revoked for notoriety. took a bite out of Evander Holyfield’s ear during a fight.

WWE – then known as WWF – struggled to compete with rival WCW’s promotion that year with falling ratings and loss of advertisers, but Tyson’s involvement helped rejuvenate the brand.
