Middlesbrough join the transfer race for the Everton striker while Sunderland and Stoke go after the ex-Man City star

MIDDLESBROUGH have joined Sunderland and Stoke City in the race to sign Everton striker Ellis Simms.
The former Manchester City star is in demand this summer as he enters the final year of his Toffees contract.
Accordingly team talkBoro are the latest championship club to inquire about signing Simms.
Sunderland, Stoke and Ipswich Town are said to have already expressed interest in a deal with the striker.
Middlesbrough’s interest has been piqued amid fears of losing last season’s top scorer Chuba Akpom.
As revealed by SunSport, Akpom is wanted by several Premier League clubs and is also in the last 12 months of his contract.
His strike partner Cameron Archer has already left Riverside Stadium and returned to parent club Aston Villa after his loan.
Simms appears set to leave Everton this summer after struggling for playing time after being recalled from his loan spell at Sunderland in January.
He has scored once in 11 Premier League appearances for the club, but made just two starts under Sean Dyche.
The 22-year-old had scored seven goals during his six-month stay at Sunderland before returning to Merseyside.

A move to Middlesbrough would see Simms add to the club’s promotion push after finishing fourth in the Championship last season.
Michael Carrick led the club to the play-offs before losing to Coventry City in two games at the end of the season.
